Building a Space Marine Chapter for Beginners

Choosing a Chapter Paint Scheme

Choosing a paint scheme for your Space Marine Army is never easy, but thankfully there are a couple of tools out there that can at least help a bit. One that’s well worth checking out is the Space Marine Painter at Bolter and Chainsword.

After spending some time today thinking about a paint scheme i noted down some ideas that would possibly fit with my back-story and be easy to paint.

1) I would like to try a metallic bronze as the main colour of the power armour, this should mean that a good part of the work will be complete just using dry brushing. Its also a good fit with the back story where the mining ship Ida is extracting an unusual material from nebula’s (this explains the bronze effect)

2) I thought about the chapter insignia and decided to try something a bit different. Instead of a standard insignia for the whole chapter, I’m going to experiment with the idea of extracts of star charts being worn on the shoulder pads. The shoulder pads will then have a parchment effect applied to them.

3) I’m looking for a slightly gritty feel to the chapter that alludes to the fact that these guys mean business!

4) On the helmet I’m going to try out a rich red (GW Red Gore) which i may extend to tabbards and capes etc I may also try my had at using green stuff to create helmet plumes (like ancient Greeks) but i have never tried any green stuff before so I’m not sure how well that’s going to turn out :S

Anyway i have created a basic draft of the colour scheme using the Space Marine Painter at Bolter and Chain Sword, and although the end result will be pretty different I’m sure I’m confident enough to give it a go on some clip together space marine models, to see how it will look.

Here is the basic colour scheme for the Sons of Aeon
